As someone who always knows what is going on in the music industry, I follow many people on social media that share similar interests relating to new music, concert venues, news about musicians, etc. In doing that, I read many articles and posts on a regular basis that break down the latest news in music. Recently, I was on LinkedIn where I stumbled upon an article that dissected the actions Justin Bieber following the release of his new single, ‘Yummy’.

This article was a short but well written post by blogger Tatum Van Dan, posted to her website ‘yaytums.com’. The blog post was titled, “How Not to Get Your Song to #1: A Guide by Justin Bieber”, and it discussed everything that went wrong with the release of Justin’s newest single, “Yummy”.
Tatum started her post by arguing that the song was arguably bad, and that how although it was bad, Justin Bieber would still receive millions of streams and song promotion just because of his name and title. She then went on to elaborate on how he did receive 38 million Spotify streams and was yet unhappy with the success of his song. Justin then started begging his fans on social media to get his song to #1 on the charts, even making them a guide book on his Instagram to show fans how to buy and stream his song repeatedly. Not only did this come across as needy and ungrateful, according to Tatum, his song was not well written or produced and shouldn’t have even received the amount of attention that it got in the first place.
I really enjoyed reading Tatum’s post because it shined a light on the ugly truth many well-loved celebrities in the music industry don’t often reveal. I admire her writing and how her personality was revealed through her blog post. I am continuing to follow her work both on her blog and through social media.
