If you keep up with the news and are on social media, its not hard to see the success the Jonas Brothers have had since coming back into the pop music spotlight just over one year ago. Within this year alone they have released multiple hit singles including the song, “Sucker”, which spent 22 weeks in a top 10 spot on the Billboard Hot 100’s list and is the Jonas Brother’s most streamed song on Spotify, with over 670 Million streams.
The success they have experienced this past year, was more than anyone could have anticipated especially since they had been away from the music scene as a group for six years. So what made their return such a big deal and why have they done so well since then?
Signing with Colombia Records in 2005 and releasing their first official album in 2006, the Jonas Brothers were the first big boy band of the 2000’s. They were young and talented singers and grew to be very popular with young girls in middle and high school. Their fame continued to grow and they eventually signed with Disney who produced more of their albums, music videos, world tours, their own TV show and gave them lead roles in the Disney ‘Camp Rock’ films. This went on for five years until their overwhelming amount of tour dates and projects slowed as their show was eventually cancelled. Everything stopped for a few years until the Jonas Brothers released two singles in 2013 and even announced an upcoming tour. However only a few months had passed until it was announced that the tour would be cancelled due to tensions within the band regarding creative differences, further leading to the news that the band was splitting up.

From watching their 2019 documentary, “Chasing Happiness”, on Amazon Prime, it was revealed that there were many issues that ultimately let to the downfall of the Jonas Brothers in 2013. Although their four years of fame was phenomenal and included so many opportunities that other musicians could only dream of having, the Jonas Brothers explained that it was the timing in which their rise to fame occurred, and how much they did in such a short amount of time that resulted in the tension and fighting between the brothers. When the brothers got their start in 2005, Nick Jonas, the youngest brother, was 12 years old at the time, Joe was 15, and Kevin was 17. From the beginning, the boys practically grew up in the entertainment industry, and with their fame developing so quickly, it was only a matter of time until the stress of everything got to be too much.
In the time the brothers split to their reunion in 2019, not only did they fix their relationships with one another as brothers, they had to work on themselves a lot before they could really address the roots of the problems and issues within the band. Kevin got married and became a father to two girls, and both Nick and Joe got engaged and were later married in 2018 and 2019 after the band was planning its return. Although the brothers originally split because they were fighting and disagreeing with one another, I think it allowed them to find their own identities and mature mentally to the point where they could work together as a band again.
Their success, however, was made possible by the tightly knit, devoted and loyal fan base the band had formed over the years and the fact that the majority of these fans were around the same age as the brothers. This allowed the fans to grow up with the band, making them eager to embrace the return of the Jonas Brothers because they had such an involvement within their childhoods.
As a Jonas Brothers fan myself, I have enjoyed watching their success grow and change to adapt to their fans and the current pop music industry. So much as happened since 2005, both in regards to my life and that of the Jonas Brothers’ career. Being able to share these experiences with other fans who have witnessed the same thing something really special and is just one of the many things that shows how music can bring people together, both as a fan and as an artist.
